The works by three artists making up the exhibition presented at the Małopolska Garden of Arts can be divided into two thematic areas. The first relates to everyday living, with typical activities performed each day – mainly by women, who had become accustomed to carrying the burden of responsibility for this sphere of life. The commonplace, as Jolanta Brach-Czaina has written, is “a reality condemned, and condemning us to oblivion,” whereas art can save it from that oblivion. We clearly see this in the video, where domestic chores, such as preparing a meal, are almost indistinguishable from creative activities such as mixing the paint and priming the canvas. The other subject that the artists take on is landscape. In the context of “domestic” images, landscape becomes a reflection of some other world, perhaps a thing of a dream, or a remembered frame from a movie, whither one could escape from the mundane.
